John Nugus
John graduated from the University of Queensland, Australia, in 1996 with a four
year Bachelor of Physiotherapy. He has gained experience in a wide range of physiotherapy
settings in both Australia and in the UK, and further developed his skills in pain
management by completing a Masters Degree in Pain at Kings College London.
He works in a consultative role within Physio 1 to 1, seeing people who are suffering
with chronic (long-term) pain. He thrives on helping both athletes - elite and amateur
- whose pain is affecting their performance, and non-athletes who are suffering
from chronic pain which limits their day to day function. John recognises the importance
of developing individualised programs to help people achieve goals which are meaningful
to them.
John brings to the practice a unique insight into the combination of pain management
techniques and Pilates rehabilitation. He is a fully certified matwork and equipment
based Pilates instructor. John integrates Pilates within his rehabilitation programs
and alongside other physiotherapy techniques which may be required. He sees Pilates
as a user friendly medium to improve clinical outcomes and reduce recurrence of
injury.
John was previously a senior lecturer for six years with the Australian Physiotherapy
and Pilates Institute (APPI), teaching and accrediting other Chartered Physiotherapists
in Pilates throughout the UK. He has also held the position of UK Director for the
APPI . More recently John undertook an Honorary Research Fellow post at the Royal
Brompton Hospital.
In his spare time John enjoys running. He represented Queensland in his younger
days and now enjoys running marathons for fun. The London, Berlin and Dublin marathons
are among those 'ticked', and he has plenty of other cities in his sights.
